Part 1 – Introduction

       Basics of human research ethics

       Put simply, solutions to human problems require research on human subjects. By definition, research in social sciences almost always requires examining human behavior, and specific ethical standards must be upheld by researchers and their staff to assure the safety of human research subjects.

       This module is intended to cover the basics of human research ethics for those assigned as assistants or aides to studies, specifically, aides who are not involved in study design.

 

       Learning Objectives

       Participants in this training will:

  • Understand an assistant’s role in a research project
  • Be familiar with terminology used in research projects
  • Know the basics of human research ethics
  • Understand informed consent, privacy and confidentiality
